Four Animes you MUST Watch
If
your a practitioner of the martial arts, or a fan of boxing or the ever
growing sport of mixed martial arts, than you came to the right place. This article will tell you about 4 animes that you HAVE to watch if you are a fan of martial arts and action.
These include:
Hajime no Ippo- The epic series about Ippo Makunochi, an high school student who is transformed by the world of boxing, who seems to have been “reborn” from the kid who gets bullied to the young adult who becomes a pro boxer.
Baki the Grappler- Great
series about named Baki Hanma, who trains in various arts hopes one day he will fight his father and surpass him. Follow Baki into the depths of the underground world of martial arts where people fight to see who is the best in the world.
Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple- Find out what happens to Kenichi Shirahama, as he learns the various arts and is constantly attacked by gangs who want to test his martial arts abilities.
Street Fighter II V- Watch as Ryu and Ken Masters venture throughout the world to test out the various martial arts and challenge street fighters.
Number one: Hajime no Ippo
If
you’re a fan of boxing, whether it’s the fight night series, don kings boxing, punch out or you are just a die hard fan of the sport, this anime is a must watch for you.
Summary
The story is about a teenage boy named Ippo Makunochi who is constantly
bullied at school. But than one day on his walk home he encountered his
bullies and he was kicked down a hill and beaten up. As this was happening, a runner (jogger) came by and noticed the boy getting beat up.
He ran down the hill to help Ippo and the the bullies charged him, but the runner (who is actually an middle weight pro boxer) easily dodged all the punches and somehow managed to take all the buttons off the shirts of the bullies. The bullies than ran off and Ippo fell unconscious.
The boxer than took Ippo to the boxing gym to treat his wounds. Ippo wakes up to the noise of a loud thud on the punching bag and sees boxers skipping, sparing, lifting weights, and so forth. From that point on, Ippo gains the firery passion to know what it’s like to be strong, brave and nonetheless, a boxer.
Conclusion
This series is a definite watch, for it contains: Epic boxing matches, scenes of techniques a boxer would actually use in real life, comedy, drama, THE ACTION. So if you’re a fan of boxing or martial arts or just a die hard lover for anime, give Ippo a shot and I guarantee, he’ll put up a fight.
Number two: Baki the Grappler
If
you have interest in the martial arts and are a fan of an action movies
or stories, you should watch this anime. For it includes all the elements of a great plot and scenes that are unreal
Summary
The
story begins at a tennis court with 100 gang members with swords, knifes, baseball bats, brass knuckles and so forth. In a distance stands
2 police officers watching. Than among the mist, comes one of the leaders of the gangs to see whats going on. He finds out that the 100 gang members are all rounded up to fight a single person. But that person is just a 13 year old boy.
Two minutes later, the boy emerges from the horizon, Baki Hanma. As the leader is joking around about Baki’s size, Baki quickly jumps off the fence and beats up the gang leaders. Than charges at the crowd of gang members. Minutes later, the cops come to break it up and find Baki on the ground unconcious. As Baki wakes up, he finds out that out of the 100 people he fought, he only KO’d 37.
Than, later on in the anime, you find out he’s not an ordinary kid, for
the past 13 years he’s been trained by professional athletes and body builders, but Baki, losing to the 100 people, quits the gym and walks his own path to train and learn the various martial arts to one day enter an deadly underground tournament and fight his father, who is considered the strongest “creature” on the planet.
Conclusion
Definitely
an anime that makes my top 10 list of greatest animes of all time. Everything from karate, kung fu, boxing, muay thai, tae kwon do all the way to sambo, jiu-jitsu, wrestling, judo, this anime contains most of the martial arts of the world and has awesome fight scenes and suspense.
Not only that but the plot is really something.
Number three: Kenichi: The Mightest Disciple
This anime is well worth the watch, it contains the ingredients of a
great story. Another must watch if you have interest in the various
martial arts out there.
Summary
The story follows Kenichi, an high school student who trains in karate
and wants to learn how to become stronger as well as a martial artist.
As he’s walking to school, he encounters a girl and accidently bumps
into her, but the girl has been trained for a long time in martial arts,
and thought she was being attacked, so she threw Kenichi up in the air.
Kenichi, dazed and surprised, meets Miu Furinji. He than wonders who
she is and why she is so skilled. He later finds out she goes to the
same school as him, and with that, Miu introduces Kenichi to the dojo
she trains at, but little does Kenich know, that the dojo Miu trains at
contains martial arts masters who have out worldly powers.
Now, Kenichi trains there every day and is constantly targeted by the
school’s gang because of his martial arts level that went from just
karate, to knowing 6 other martial arts.
Conclusion
This
anime is definitely worth the watch. Every episode is action packed and
leaves you just dying to watch the next, and the next. If you love
anime and the martial arts, watch this and I bet that you won’t be
disappointed.
Number Four: Street Fighter V II
If
you’re wondering if it’s the same series as the famous game, than yes you are right. This anime is a must watch for you street fighter fans, let alone anime lovers and martial arts fans.
Summary
The story begins with Ryu on an island where he lives and works. One day he receives an unexpected letter from his best friend and rival, Ken
Masters to come to America. He does and as he arrives, they go out to a
bar to celebrate their reunion, but at the bar they encounter some military soldiers partying and a fight breaks out.
As the fight ends, Ryu and Ken emerge victorious, but than the Sergent (Guile) comes in and fights Ryu. Ryu and Ken are both beat and they find
out why they lost. Guile, is a street fighter, meaning he is trained to
fight on the battlefield where losing is not an option. Where as Ryu and Ken are trained for fighting at tournaments.
Now, Ryu and Ken venture out in the world to test themselves against street fighters and learn the various arts.
Conclusion
One
of the 1st animes I ever watched and I have to say, its pretty amazing.
If you love the games, than you will undoubtedly love this anime.

I would include the fighting classic Fist of the Northstar to this list.
Out of this list I def love Street Fighter V and Grappler Baki. Two solid fighting animes. I also have to give it to NellyAmit. Fist of the North Star is a classic. Who can forget that one hundred crack fist of the north star? lolol.

I like Hajime no ippo, I have a lot of the comics from the local bookoff store here in Japan. I used to learn Japanese from these kinda comics, back in 2001-2002.
